Jaffna's tsunami hit get mobile paediatric clinic from Italy
by Bharatha Malawaraarachchi

The Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Italy's Alicei and Comune di Bolongna to implement a mobile paediatric clinic in Jaffna for those affected by the tsunami.

The clinic is composed of a glass-resin cell installed on a steel tailer and is equipped with extensible examination coach, angle shelf, one large closet with shutters, bathroom with wash basin and mirror, electrical power generators and waterworks with water reservoirs.

The MoU was singed last Friday between Ministry Secretary Ranjith Maligaspe and Benedetto Zacchiroli of Commune di Bolonga and Sara Piazzano, a representative for Alicei.

A Health Ministry spokesman said the MoU will be operative initially for one year from the date of its execution and thereafter for a further period as may be mutually agreed upon from time to time by the partners.

"The Ministry will make arrangements to make available the land and other non-monetary requirements for the implementation of the project," he added.

The spokesman said the project will be implemented in accordance with Health Ministers guidelines, specification, designs and standards.

"The Ministry will appoint a committee consisting five persons with proven ability and expertise in fields related to the project. This committee will oversee the activities of the project," he said.
