Government of Germany has agreed to provide Euro 49 million to Sri Lanka to continue the relief work in the country, which suffered heavily from the tsunami last year.

Finance Ministry sources said that German Bank involved in renovations would provide the money on behalf of the Government of Germany. The Government of Germany has also decided to give one year extra period of time to pay back the loan of 13 million Euro, obtained by the Sri Lanka Government.

An agreement was signed this morning between the two countries for year 2005 financial aid from Germany. German Ambassador and Secretary to the Finance Ministry DR. P. B.Jayasundara signed the agreement.

Utilizing the money from Germany, steps would be taken to renovate houses, water supply damaged by the catastrophe and to provide health facilities and also to provide infrastructure facilities to the new colonies.

The money will also be used to get the needed technical support and expertise to provide infrastructure facilities to new colonies in the districts of Batticaloa and the new Water Supply scheme in Valachchenai, the sources added.
