Kommt der Papst nach Sri Lanka ?

As Tamil Catholics wait for Pope Francis' visit to the island, they wish the pope a Happy Birthday

Thu, Dec 18, 2014, 12:39 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.Dec 17 (AsiaNews) Mullativu- On Pope Francis's birthday, Tamil Catholics in a northern Sri Lankan community expressed their best wishes to the Holy Father for a "long and healthy life" because the people of Sri Lanka "needs the pope's prayers for a lasting peace."

The pontiff, who is 78 today, will travel to the island nation in less than a month on an apostolic visit (13-15 January 2015). However, some in Sri Lanka, including some Christian groups, are very concerned about the proximity between the date of the presidential election (8 January 2015) and the papal visit worries some sections of Sri Lankan society,.
According Tamils interviewed by AsiaNews, the vote "will be very crucial and we would not like to see any tensions or acts of violence" during the pontiff's visit.

Das kann ich überhaupt nicht bestätigen, alle meine Informationen lauten aus dieser Gegend hier, man ist froh das der Präsident den Krieg beendet hat. Man wird ihn selbstverständlich wiederwählen. Er ist ein sehr guter Präsident!

oftmals, wenn ueber den Praesidenten geredet wird, kommt das Eva Herrman Syndrom zum Tragen, dass in Deutschland ja hinlaenglich an allen Stammtischen grassiert. Es war ja nicht alles schlecht was er getan hat, sondern auch viel Gutes und dann werden viele Sachen aufgezaehlt. So arbeitet unser Gehirn, wenn es die Realitaet ausblendet und nicht wahr haben will.

Es ist so und viele Seelenfaenger machen sich dieses zu nutze.

Fiel mir nur gerade so auf.

The Catholic Church in Sri Lanka is not in a position to ask Pope Francis to cancel his visit to Sri Lanka next month, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith said yesterday.“The church cannot just ask the Pope not to come visit Sri Lanka after inviting him in the first place,” the Cardinal told a media briefing yesterday.He emphasised that organizing such an event as a papal visit to any country is a difficult task and therefore everyone concerned should see to it that an appropriate atmosphere was created for the visit of the Holy Father to Sri Lanka.Cardinal Ranjith recalled that the Catholic Bishops Conference in Sri Lanka had met the two main contenders at the presidential elections and both have assured him that they would see to it that peace prevailed in the post election period for the Pope to arrive. Accordingly the one who wins the election would be expected to welcome the pope to Sri Lanka,” he said.

Dieser Aussage würde ich mich anschließen.

Er hat den Krieg beendet, überall wird gebaut und die Straßen werden instant gesetzt. Mir sind wesentlich weniger Bettler begegnet als ich es aus den vergangen Jahren gewohnt war. Die Kaufhäuser und Geschäfte sind voll und es wird gekauft wie verrückt, also müssen die Leute Geld haben. Es geht ihnen demnach besser als früher.

Mir als Ausländer steht es außerdem kaum zu, darüber zu befinden, wem sie sich hier zum Präsidenten wählen. Wenn sie den bisherigen gut finden, weil er den Krieg beendet hat, dann verstehe ich das.

Ich finde jedenfalls, dass er auf eine breite Zustimmung bei der Bevölkerung bauen kann.
 
Special security arrangement for Pope's visit

Sat, Dec 27, 2014, 12:01 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.Dec 26, Colombo: Sri Lanka police have implemented a special security programme for the upcoming visit of the Pope to the island on 13th of January.
According to the police media spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana, a contingency of 23,000 police officers will be deployed to provide security during the Papal visit. The special police force will include five Deputy Inspectors of General (DIGs) and 17 Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs).
The public will have the opportunity to witness the Pope's motorcade from the sides of the road from Katunayake to Vatican house in the Bauddhaloka Mawatha and pay tribute to the Pontiff.

NGO urges Pope to reconsider visit to Sri Lanka

In a letter to the Pope's office, the NGO says post-poll violence would be a distinct possibility as "an emboldened opposition is unlikely to acquiesce with a hijacking of the people's verdict."
The NGO in a letter to the Pope's office issued the following statement:

Pope will not cancel his visit to Sri Lanka

Wed, Jan 7, 2015, 12:53 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka. Jan 07, Colombo: The Catholic Church of Sri Lanka assured that the Pope Francis will visit Sri Lanka as scheduled and certain media reports which said that Vatican had decided to cancel the Papal visit are not true.
The General Responsible for Information System (GRIS) for Pope�s Visit 2015, Rev. Fr. Cyril Gamini said Pope Francis will visit the country as planned from January 13 to 15, 2015.
"Pope Francis has remained committed to his planned three-day trip to Sri Lanka on Jan. 13," Rev. Fr. Cyril Gamini Fernando said.

Viele Straßen sind schon beflaggt, immer abwechselnd mit einer Fahne von Sri Lanka und der gelb-weißen des Vatikan. Auf dem Galle Face werden schon fleißig überdachte Gerüste aufgestellt.
 
Und einige Strassen sind natürlich auch gesperrt:

The Police Department said todayy that Colombo – Negambo Road will be closed from 6 p.m. on January 12 to noon of January 13 due to the visit of the Pope.

Police Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said during the time Katunayake- Colombo Expressway could be used toll free for all vehicles including three-wheelers and motor-cycles.

SSP Rohana said vehicles traveling towards to Colombo from Negombo and Chillaw via Colombo – Negambo Road would be opened until 5 a.m. on January 13.

Motorists driving towards Colombo would be allowed to use both the Expressway and the Negambo Road till then.

The Colombo – Negambo Road would be completely restricted from Katunayake to Nawaloka Circle after 8 a.m. on January 13, he said.

Das ist eben eine ernste Angelegenheit, da lacht man nicht.

Oder hast Du schon mal auf srilankischen Hochzeitsbildern lachende Gesichter gesehen ?

In der Galerie der Hochzeitspaare in unserer (srilankischen) Familie ist kein lachendes Gesicht zu sehen, die gucken alles so, als ginge es zur eigenen Beerdigung.
