'Fish rain' in Madampe for over 3 hours

A 'rain of fish' has been witnessed in the Madampe area in Chillaw this morning.
Climbing Perch ("Kawaiya") which is a common fish inhabiting tanks and ponds could be seen falling along with the rain for around 3 hours.

Around 50kg of Climbing perches were collected by the villagers.

Fish rains occur as a result of "funnel clouds" most of the time. 'Funnel clouds' can form near the surfaces of lakes or oceans. These have a lot of suction power, so fish and small marine organisms can be pulled out of the water.
'Funnel clouds' could develop further to form water spouts.

These clouds can be blown anywhere according to the direction of the wind, and the fish come back to earth with the rain.
