Bundala National Park is a treasure trove for bird enthusiasts. The national park is located in proximity to the city of Hambantota in the south of Sri Lanka. Whether you’re travelling from Galle, Mirissa or along the south coast, a day trip to the uncrowded terrains of Bundala National Park is a must-do activity for anyone. Famed for its myriad of exotic winged creatures, embark on a morning safari through the national park for the best chance to view these feathered friends! As the park can be visited year-round, there’s always a great chance of spotting a variety of birds, both endemic and migratory to the island. Adventurists on an exciting safari through Bundala National Park can also spot numerous other animal species like crocodiles, deer, elephants, monkeys, wild buffalos, civet cats and more. Bundala National Park Safari is very much popular among both local & overseas visitors due to complex array of animals. Also Bundala is a ideal hot spot for bird watching enthusiast worldwide. Bountiful Sri Lanka Wildlife in Bundala National Park • Park opening times 2021 – 6am to 6pm everyday, with last entry at 4.30pm. • Park entrance fee 2021 – The entrance fee to Bundala National Park is $10 USD converted into rupees on the day of your visit. At time of writing $10 USD is approximately 1,855 Sri Lankan rupees. • On top of this there is a vehicle fee of 250 rupees, a service charge of $8 USD (approx 1,485 rupees) and 15% tax. You also need to arrange a tour guide and driver which will incur an extra cost. For a group of 5 we paid 5,000 rupees per person, as well as an extra 2,000 rupees for return transport to and from the park. In total we paid 27,000 rupees for a 5 person safari in Bundala National Park, which included all entrance fees, taxes, guide fees and return transport. Bundala National Park is one of the best national parks in Sri Lanka for birdwatchers. It’s a wonderland for birdlife, home to almost 200 different species of birds, including some endemic species. Despite being a wonderful park in its own right, Bundala National Park is often overlooked in favour of Yala, Udawalawe or even Kumana National Park. On top of that, it’s less visited than other national parks which means you can enjoy the wildlife without the crowds found in Yala!
