Buses, trains to suspend operations from midnight today joining the hartal

May 05, Colombo:
The Private Bus Owners’ Association says they have decided to withdraw from bus services from 12 midnight today.

The President of the Private Bus Owners’ Association Gemunu Wijeratne speaking at a media briefing said the decision was taken due to the lack of diesel for buses and to support the Hartal movement to be launched from midnight today.

Meanwhile, the Railway Trade Union Alliance stated that trains will not run from midnight today in support of the hartal. More than 40 railway trade unions will join the strike.

The Coordinating Center for Trade Unions states that more than 2,000 trade unions are participating in today’s nationwide hartal and strike against the President, Prime Minister, and the government.

Thousands of Sri Lankans are participating in a Harthal campaign and unprecedented action trade union by the workers island wide has disrupted services in many sectors including health, postal, transport and education

The Ceylon Teachers’ Service Union stated that due to the strike school activities will not be held today. Its General Secretary Mahinda Jayasinghe said that teachers and principals will not come to schools today.
