Chinese leader accorded grand welcome
Chinese President is Xi Jinping was accorded a grand welcome at the Bandaranaike International Airport this morning. President Mahinda Rajapaksa welcomed the Chinese leader on his arrival while several traditional dancers, school children and decorated elephants were also part of the welcome ceremony.
The motorcade with the Chinese President and his delegation were driven to Colombo along the Katunayaka expressway with traditional dancers greeting them along the way.
The visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping is the first visit by a Chinese President to Sri Lanka in 28 years. The last Chinese President to visit the island was President Li Xiannian in 1986.
