Construction of Sri Lanka’s first Potato Chips factory completed​

Apr 26, Colombo: The construction work of the first Potato Chips processing factory in Sri Lanka, which has been built by a young farmer company in Kahattewela area of Bandarawela for export, has been completed.

The Kahattewela Young Farmer Company, which is run by a group of young farmers in the Kahattewela area, carries out the production and export activities of this Potato Chips factory.

The small-scale agribusiness participation program (SAPP) under the Ministry of Agriculture has also provided financial support for this factory.

Minister of Agriculture, Mahinda Amaraweera recently visited the factory, which was built with the small scale agricultural business participation program at the cost of 20 million rupees and with the financial contribution of the Kahatthewela Young Farmers Company.

Der Produktionsversuch der ersten Kartoffelchips-Fabrik Sri Lankas sei ein großer Erfolg gewesen, teilte das Landwirtschaftsministerium mit.

Sie sagten, das Projekt sei gemeinsam vom Small Scale Agri-business Participation Program (SAPP) des Landwirtschaftsministeriums und der Janatha Govi Samagama, Bandarawela, initiiert worden.

Der Minister erwähnte, dass Kartoffelchips, die für 100 Millionen Rupien gebaut wurden, ein Projekt sind, das mit dem Ziel umgesetzt wird, Kartoffeln als Mehrwertprodukt in diesem Land auf den Markt zu bringen.

Kartoffelchips werden von einigen lebensmittelverarbeitenden Unternehmen in Sri Lanka importiert und der Betrag, der im Jahr 2021 dafür ausgegeben wurde, betrug 21 Milliarden Rupien. Kartoffelchips werden derzeit von der Privatwirtschaft in mehrere Länder exportiert.

Nach Angaben aus dem Jahr 2021 wurde eine Tonne hierzulande produzierte Kartoffelchips für 6.321 US-Dollar verkauft.
