Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena will open the Bastian Mawatha floating on Monday at 5 pm with the participation of Defense and Urban Development Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

Sri Lanka's first floating market opens for public

Mon, Aug 25, 2014, 11:04 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka. Aug 25, Colombo: Sri Lanka's first floating market in the heart of capital Colombo was declared open for the public by Minister Maithripala Sirisena this evening.
The Urban Development Authority (UDA) with the assistance of the Army and Navy converted the area along the Bastian Street from the Pettah bus stand to Fort Railway Station to an attractive shopping complex floating on the once polluted Beira Lake.
The new shopping stalls are built along the canal bank in a unique architectural design that blends in with the location all the while giving it a touch of modern elegance, according to the UDA.

Wirklich eine Bereicherung für Colombo. Der Floating Market am Beira Lake ist eine kleine Oase in mitten der Metropole und bietet zumindest ein wenig Erholung neben dem Stress des Shoppings. Noch ist der Markt nicht komplett fertig, aber er kann bereits jetzt schon gefallen.

ist wirklich schön geworden und es macht Spaß dort ein wenig rumzulaufen, auch wenn es nicht wirklich ein Floating Market wie aus Thailand oder Vietnam bekannt ist...

Ich glaube, es wird auch in Zukunft dort keine Boote geben. Der Fluß ist einfach nicht dafür geeignet und man müsste wesentlich mehr investieren, um die Gegend werbewirksam zu nutzen.

Dafür klappt aber eine andere Idee, die so sicher nicht gewollt war.

Neeee, so was gibt es doch nicht auf der Insel.

Traurig, was daraus geworden ist, oder ? Einige Bilder vermitteln einen aktuellen Eindruck.







Das Wasser ist "umgeschlagen", die Tiere vegetieren vor sich hin und die wenig offenen Stände sind sicherlich kaum noch einen Besuch wert. Die Tretboote wurden sicherlich ewig nicht mehr benutzt und sind in einem entsprechenden Zustand.

Wirklich schade .........
