Da Galle für mich so etwas wie das "Tor des Südens" ist, packe ich das mal hierher:
Zurzeit stehe ich in Kontakt mit Mrs. Shakira Khalid aus Galle. Ihr Guest House - das erste seiner Art in Galle Fort - möchte ich hier kurz vorstellen. Es ist zurzeit wegen aufwendiger Renovierungsarbeiten geschlossen und soll im März neu eröffnet werden.
Khalid´s Guest House, 102 Pedlar St., Tel. (077) 3177676, sabrik@sltnet.lk, www.gallefortguesthouse.com. Einen sehr guten Standard bietet die nach einer vollständigen Renovierung im März 2012 wiedereröffnete Privatunterkunft von Mrs. Shakira Khalid. Khalid´s ist eines der ersten Gasthäuser im Galle Fort, seine Geschichte begann bereits am 17. März 1969. Heute gibt es vier sehr gemütlich mit reichlich Teak-Holz eingerichtete Zimmer, alle ausgestattet mit AC, Kühlschrank, Notebook mit kostenlosem WiFi, Mini-Safe und gar Bügeleisen mit –brett. Zimmer 1 und 2 haben zudem einen Balkon mit Seeblick.
Preise jeweils mit Frühstück für 1/2 Personen, inkl. Service Tax
Zimmer 1 und 2: 50/65 US$
Zimmer 3 (Master Suite): 60/75 US$
Zimmer 4: 40/50 US$
Shakira Khalid ist weit über die Grenzen Galles hinaus bekannt für ihre Kochkünste. Auch wer hier nicht übernachtet kann sich gerne zum Dinner anmelden. Auf dem Speiseplan stehen traditionelle Gerichte aus SriLanka, Rice & Curry, Buriyani, marokkanische und persische Gerichte. Sehr familiäre Atmosphäre.

History of Mrs. Khalid’s guest house.
As you might well know we are one of the first guest houses in Galle Fort. Way back the start was in 1969 March 17th. It might be interesting to know how we had began a guest house business.
My father who was a lawyer shares his afternoon hours after office in the front verandah. Obviously I join him and shares the days chat. likewise one afternoon In 1969 March 17th while we were spending our afternoon hours in the Verandah a car with a foreign single guest stopped in front, as we were there the driver asks us is there a place to stay for a night for his guest. As you can imagine there was no other place apart from the new oriental hotel (N.O.H.) presently the Aman Galle, which was the only choice and we answered so. For some reason the hotel was full that day and the guest namely Marcus Fillichetti from Germany said we have already checked but it is full. He looked absolutely lost as no place to stay. As we had the first front room unused in our house, at this moment I suggested my father that Marcus may stay in this room for the night if he likes. Very reluctantly my father agrees for my request and Marcus had a room to stay for the night. With a stranger in the house it was indeed a strange experience but in few hour time the feel of strangeness reduced and the night passed! Next day morning Marcus request for one more night stay which we agreed and he finally ended up staying 26 nights! At the time of leaving he asks for a bill which we did not know, and I said it is not necessary to pay! Marcus voluntarily pays us Rs. 400 For his full stay ! I was so over joyed… since Marcus left we continued renting our front room and the price was Rs.5 (five rupees) per night. That’s how Khalid’s guest house started.

Cuisine
I still enjoy cooking and am sure you would have heard about my cooking. Its home cooking with dishes of traditional authentic Sri Lankan rice and curry to more famous traditional Buriyani to Moroccan and Persian dishes. While I cater to in house guest as well as outside guest on selected numbers the atmosphere is homely as compared to restaurants and café.
Food prices range from US$ 5 to US$ 10 per person. I had a pleasant surprised this week by the organizers of the Galle literary festival when they had decided to sponsor one of the authors voluntarily sponsoring my little place as khalid’s authentic dining. Not sure why they had done it so.
Hört sich jedenfalls alles sehr gut an und scheint eine interessante Alternative zu den Nobelherbergen im Fort. Wir werden uns das Guest House im April ausführlich ansehen, ein Bericht und aktuelle Bilder folgen. Berichte zu anderen Unterkünften in Galle folgen ebenfalls.
