Dalada Maligawa Kandy Sri Lanka

The Dalada Maligawa is located in Kandy City and it is known as, the Temple of the Tooth Relic. It is one of the world known landmark sites in Sri Lanka. The first “Dalada Madura” in Kandy, which housed the Sacred Tooth Relic was built by King Wimaladharmasuriya the first during his reign from year 1592 – 1604. History reveals that this was destroyed by the Portuguese during their invasions. The second temple was built in the same location by King Rajasinghe the Second during his reign from 1635 – 1687, which was burnt by the Dutch. The Dalada history says in year 1687 King Wimaladharmasuriya the Second built a 3 storeyed Dalada Madura and performed Dalada rituals with great devotion but with time the building was decayed and destroyed. Later his son King Sri Veera Parakrama Narendrasinghe who reigned from 1707 – 1739 built the 2 storeyed Dalada Madura which one can see today. The South Indian Kings who ruled the country from Senkadagala renovated and protected the shrine which was built by King Narendrasinghe. The temple was finely renovated and beautified by King Keerthi Sri Rajasinghe to its present appearance. Paththirippuwa or the Octagonal Pavilion was constructed by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe who reigned from year 1798 – 1815. Protecting of the Sacred Tooth Relic and conducting religious rituals without a break is being carried out to the present day under the strict surveillance of the three chief custodians of the Tooth Relic, the most Venerable Mahanayake theros of Malwatta and Asgiriya chapters and the lay custodian, the Diyawadana Nilame.( Dalada Maligawa Website) Dalada Maligawa is a must visit location for all tourists and visitors can catch a glimpse of Buddhist rituals, explore the museum that includes several ancient artifacts, and pay your tribute to the tooth relic at one of the Buddhist ceremonies held at the premises. Before preparing your visit keep in mind that the Maligawa is a Buddhist shrine and you will need to wear attire that covers your shoulders and legs.

My Beautiful Sri Lanka - Day 01 Kandy

Kandy SRI LANKA 🇱🇰 Heaven on Earth! Top Things To See & Do in Kandy

Hi, everybody! Join us as we take you on a trip to Kandy, Sri Lanka. Kandy is one of the largest cities in this South Asian island country. It doubles as an administrative and spiritual center thanks to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (one of the most sacred places of worship in the Buddhist world). Dedicated to the Sacred Tooth of the Buddha, this temple is the main reason why Kandy was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1988. Our journey to Kandy from Colombo took a few hours and included some stunning panoramic views. When we finally arrived at our destination, the long drive was totally worth it! We found a gorgeous place to stay up in the hills above Kandy called Jungle Tide. The owners, Sally and Jerry, welcomed us with a delicious dinner made of different curries that we absolutely loved and enjoyed. After a good night's sleep, we were ready to start our day. Inspired by the wonderful sunny weather and gorgeous surroundings, we enjoyed a yummy breakfast and took a walking tour of the estate. The beautiful sounds of the jungle in combination with the breathtaking vistas painted a picture of Heaven on Earth. After completing our tour we caught a shuttle into Kandy. Our first stop was the Royal Botanical Gardens which offered lovely nature and a perfect escape from all the hustle and bustle in the city. We even saw Indian Flying Foxes which are one of the largest types of bats in the world. Then we visited the nearby New Ranweli Spice Garden, a place to see, smell, feel and touch Sri Lankan spices. We loved the cinnamon tree bark which was sweet and reminded us of a Canadian candy called Cinnamon Hearts. We also learned Sri Lanka is all about natural medicine. The guide gave us a presentation of some of their ointments and tinctures made with locally produced spices that are used for treating everything from psoriasis and arthritis to bellyaches and hair loss. We really loved all the bold intoxicating smells and grabbed a few items at their spice boutique on our way out. Next, we headed to the most visited place in town, the Temple of the Sacred Tooth. Inside, we were greeted by some kind Sri Lankans who treated us to a delicious ginger tea and taught us more about their faith. As the site was much larger than we expected, we decided to return again the following day. On our way back to Jungle Tide, we decided to stop and get some wine to have with dinner, but shopping for alcohol in Sri Lanka was an experience in itself as you’ll see in the video! Back at the house, we had another finger-licking dinner with Sally and Jerry. Stay tuned for part 2 of our Kandy video as well as more videos from our Sri Lanka Series. 00:00 Welcome to Kandy, Sri Lanka 00:23 Driving from Colombo to Kandy Sri Lanka 01:46 Our Spectacular Stay in Kandy at Jungle Tide 02:24 Delicious Sri Lankan Dinner with Sally and Jerry 02:44 Jungle Tide Estate Tour 05:28 Kandy Sri Lanka Tour 06:16 Royal Botanical Gardens in Kandy 08:13 Indian Flying Fox Bats 10:05 New Ranweli Spice Garden 10:58 Sri Lanka Natural Medicine 11:51 Sri Lankan Spice Shop 12:18 Temple of the Sacred Tooth Kandy 14:31 Buying Wine in Sri Lanka 15:15 Sri Lankan Food is Delicious!

Sri Lanka I Kandy I Vlog 20

Frisch, meint hier wirklich frisch.
