KLM resumes flights to Colombo after nearly 20 years

May 02, Amsterdam: At the start of the 2016 winter schedule, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will resume direct service to Sri Lanka's Colombo International Airport from October, the airline said in a statement Monday. The first flight to Colombo is scheduled to depart on Monday, 31 October 2016. This marks KLM's return to Colombo after an absence of almost 20 years. KLM suspended service to the Sri Lankan capital (then served via Abu Dhabi) in 1997 as the war escalated. Sri Lanka has been a safe and stable country since the civil war came to an end in 2009. Since then, the economy - tourism in particular - has grown exponentially. KLM to resume flights to Colombo in winter 2016 after an absence of almost 20 years

Thu, Sep 15, 2016, 09:34 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.Sept 15, Colombo: KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, the flag carrier of the Netherlands, will resume flights to Colombo in winter 2016, the airline said.
KLM's brand new Boeing 787 Dreamliner will operate between Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport and Amsterdam Schiphol Airport connecting its 294 passengers into KLM's global network of more than 140 destinations.
Throughout the winter season, KLM will operate a twice-weekly service, departing from Colombo on Tuesdays and Saturdays and returning from Schiphol on Mondays and Fridays. The first flight from Colombo is scheduled to depart on Tuesday, 01 November.
