Legal action against feeding wild elephants on the roads
Jan 09, Colombo: Attention of the Ministry of Agriculture, Wildlife and Forest Resources Conservation has been focused on the news published in the main media as well as through social media showing cases of accidents to vehicles due to attacks by wild elephants on the roads.
The Ministry said that the Wildlife Department deployed mobile vehicles to prevent attacks on vehicles by wild elephants on the Buttala-Kataragama road and drive away the wild elephants.
Accordingly, the Ministry said a program was implemented for the past four days, from 5.00 am to midnight, deploying officials and vehicles of the Yala Galge site forest office to drive the wild elephants staying on the Buttala-Kataragama road to the forest and to prevent accidents to vehicles.
