Kinder wie die Zeit vergeht. 1986 war mein erster SL Urlaub und die Zugfahrt von Colombo nach Kandy war ein echtes Abenteuer. Nun mit 52 Jahren würde ich dann doch lieber mit so einem neuen Zug fahren.

The train will leave Kandy at 4.30 am and the same train will depart Colombo Fort to Kandy at 5.20 pm.
The General Manager of the Railways Department said the Transport Minisrty had made arrangements to import eight new power sets and one of those imported power sets is deployed for service on the Colombo-Kandy route from today (25).

Jan 20, Colombo: ‘Denuwara Manike’, Sri Lanka Railways’ first intercity train between Colombo Fort and Badulla on the main line will be operated daily from February 02, the State Minister of Railways CB Ratnayake said. The train is currently operated every other day.
The State Minister made this observation while participating in an inspection tour of the Denuwara Manike train from Colombo Fort to Badulla on last Friday (18).

Yal Devi resumes operations from today
Nov 03, Colombo: The Yal Devi train from Mount Lavinia to Kankasanthurai will resume service from today (03), the Railway Department said.
The train was scheduled to leave Mt. Lavinia at 5.55 am today after being suspended for more than six months due to interprovincial travel restrictions enforced to control COVID pandemic.
On the return from Kankasanthurai to Mt. Lavinia, the train is scheduled to depart Kankasanthurai at 5.30 am the next day (04).

A new train service to be launched next month for tourists to see the upcountry
Feb 27, Colombo: Dhammika Jayasundara, General Manager of Railways has said that a special passenger train will be operated between Kandy and Demodara from March 4 for tourists to view the upcountry.

The train will stop at those places for about 15 minutes and give the tourists a chance to see the sights. The train will stop at only a few stations with more tourists and passengers.
The train will leave Kandy at 7.00 am daily and reach Demodara at 2.45 pm. It will leave Demodara at 3.40 pm daily and reach Kandy at 9.35 pm.

Sri Lanka Railways increases train fares on two routes
Mar 24, Colombo: The Department of Railways has increased the ticket prices for the reserved seats on the up country and northern routes from today (24).
According to the Sri Lanka Railways Deputy General Manager (Commercial) VS Polwattage the first class fare from Colombo Fort to Kurunegala on the Northern Line will be increased from Rs. 600 to Rs. 1000, first class fare from Colombo Fort to Anuradhapura will be increased from Rs. 1200 to Rs. 1500 and first class fares from Fort to Kankesanthurai have been increased from Rs. 1400 to Rs. 1700.
In addition, the second and third class reserved seats on the Northern Line has also been increased.

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Railways informs that the period for reserving train seats has been extended to 30 days.
Sri Lanka Railways said that passengers can make reservations for train seats one month in advance from the 13th of September.
Accordingly from 13th September 10.00 AM passengers can reserve seats for all trains that will operate until midnight on 13th October.
Earlier the period for reserving train seats was 14 days.
