No sanctions for Sri Lanka as it followed our orders – Clinton

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has announced that 7 countries including Sri Lanka would be exempted from tough new sanctions after they cut back on oil from Iran adhering to the ruling imposed by the US in December last year.
Under a law approved last year by the United States, it will penalize foreign financial institutions over transactions with Iran's central bank, which handles sales of Iran’s key export. Clinton said the seven economies exempted on Monday have all “significantly” reduced crude oil purchases from Iran. She cast the exemptions as proof of success in the U.S. campaign to put pressure on Iran.
As a result of this unjust ruling by the US, Sri Lanka had to look elsewhere to import fuel and it is no secret that this unjust act by the US and fraud, corruption and irregularities of the government soared fuel prices in Sri Lanka drastically.
