Oct 03, Colombo: Sri Lanka's cabinet of ministers have approved a proposal made by Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Arjuna Ranatunga to name the Palaly Airport in Jaffna in the Northern Province as the Jaffna International Airport.
Minister Ranatunga inaugurated the work on the development of the Palaly Airport as an international airport on 5th July. The developments are expected to be completed by the 10th of this month.

Alliance Air to operate 3 flights a week to Jaffna from Indian destinations

Alliance Air, the subsidiary of Air India, will send its inaugural flight to the Jaffna International Airport on October 17 with invitees from the aviation industry, an official said. The airport will be inaugurated on October 17 with the participation of President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.The airport runway length has been extended from 950 metres to 1400 metres and under phase 2, the runway length will be extended up to 2300 metres. An ATR 72 Aircraft carrying 70 passengers at a time can be accommodated.

Sri Lanka's third International Airport to be opened in Jaffna tomorrow

Oct 16, Colombo: Adding a new chapter to the civil aviation sector, President Maithripala Sirisena will declare open Sri Lanka's newest international airport the Jaffna International Airport in the Northern Province Thursday (October 17) for public service.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Arjuna Ranatunga and High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka Taranjit Singh Sandhu will participate in the state ceremony tomorrow.

Attract more tourists, resume Palaly operations: Prime Minister advises tourism stakeholders​

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) said it expects to attract around 800,000 tourists for the rest of the year, with an estimated revenue of $ 800 million, in a discussion held with the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe held discussions with stakeholders in the tourism sector today (14) at the Prime Minister’s Office, where he instructed officials to prepare a plan to attract tourists from India for the next six months.

Cabinet nod to resume Jaffna Airport operations​

COLOMBO (News 1st); Cabinet HAS granted approval for the resumption of international operations at the Jaffna International Airport with effect from 01st July 2022.

Although International operations at the international airport of Jaffna were inaugurated on the 11th of November 2019 ensuring the fundamental international monitoring requirements, its operational activities were suspended from 15th March 2020 due to the COVID – 19 pandemic circumstances prevailed during that period.

COLOMBO (News 1st); Das Kabinett hat die Wiederaufnahme des internationalen Flugbetriebs auf dem internationalen Flughafen von Jaffna mit Wirkung vom 01. Juli 2022 genehmigt.

Obwohl der internationale Betrieb des internationalen Flughafens von Jaffna am 11. November 2019 eröffnet wurde, um die grundlegenden internationalen Überwachungsanforderungen zu gewährleisten, wurde der Betrieb ab dem 15. März 2020 aufgrund der in diesem Zeitraum herrschenden COVID-19-Pandemie ausgesetzt.
 
Am 12.12.2022 geht es dann wieder los.

Palali International Airport nimmt Betrieb wieder auf​
