Sri Lanka's airline sell off fails, seeks new partner

Sat, May 6, 2017, 07:40 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.May 06, Colombo: A US equity firm that bid to buy a stake in Sri Lanka's loss-making national airline has pulled its offer, officials said Saturday as the carrier scrambled for a new partner.
TPG, a San Francisco-based private equity firm, has withdrawn its bid for a 49 percent stake in Sri Lankan, dashing hopes of a quick revival of the airline, AFP reported.
"After completing the due diligence, regrettably TPG have informed us they will not pursue a potential investment in Sri Lankan airlines," Sri Lankan Chairman Ajith Dias said in a memo to his staff.
"It is their opinion that allocating the human and financial resources to make the airline profitable will not realize sufficient returns compared to the many other investment opportunities that are available to them," Dias said.

ich würde der Airline wünschen, dass sie wieder mit Emirates zusammen geht. In dieser Zeit ging es mit der Airline bergauf.
Eine Fehlentscheidung sich zu trennen, ebenso wie der 2. internationale Flughafen, alles wirkt lange nach. Die Schuld wird aber nicht bei der Vorgängerreg. gesucht sondern bei der Jetzigen.
Schlimmstenfalls verschwindet UL am Himmel, ich hoffe nicht.

SriLankan's search for new partner getting desperate

Mon, May 8, 2017, 06:16 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.May 08 (NAR) COLOMBO- Sri Lankan officials are getting increasingly desperate to find a private-sector partner to share the burden of rehabilitating flag carrier SriLankan Airlines.

The airline, which for a decade was managed and part-owned by Emirates, saw its expenses and debt level soar after the respected Gulf carrier pulled out its team in 2008 amid tensions with then President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his family.Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe kicked off the search for a new partner for SriLankan last year, culminating in the selection of TPG Capital, the U.S. private equity group which has a record of guiding airline turnarounds, ahead of seven other bidders.

Harsh Vardhan, Vorsitzender von Starair Consulting sagte, SriLankan sei ein klassisches Beispiel dafür, wie politische Einmischung und schlechtes Management eine Organisation ruinieren können.

Vijitha Herath (Mitglied des Parlaments für die Volksbefreiungsfront) behauptete dass die Fluggesellschaft dem Vorstand und Führungskräften weiterhin Vergünstigungen und kostenlose Upgrades auf die Business-Klasse gewähren. Er sagte, in dieser Krise in der sich SriLankan befindet ist dies unnötig.

Bisher ist noch kein Partner gefunden und es wird sich wohl auch schwer einer finden lassen. Meine Meinung.
Wer will schon eine Fluggesellschaft mit korrupter Führung die immer noch nicht in der Lage war, die Erbschäden
der alten Regierung aufzuarbeiten.

Schade, wenn man sich selbst im Weg steht!!!

Emirates says no plan to buy stake in any airline

Emirates has no plans to buy stakes in any airline and airport across the world, the airline has told Arabian Business. The Dubai-based airline has clarified its stance after State Finance of Minister Eran Wickramaratne said informal talks have taken place with those, including Emirates, who have shown interest in investing in SriLankan Airlines. “Emirates confirms that it has no plans to acquire a stake in any airline and airport in Sri Lanka or elsewhere. Our business is focused on organic growth and has a pipeline of investments to renew and grow the fleet, expand the global network and continuous innovation of our products and services,” an airline spokesperson has told Arabian Business.

ich würde der Airline wünschen, dass sie wieder mit Emirates zusammen geht.

darauf dürfte Sri Lankan Airlines wenig Einfluss haben. Und warum sollte sich Emirates gerade jetzt, wo man selbst ein wenig schwächelt, auch noch so einen "Schrotthaufen" an die Füße kletten???
