Die Sri Lanka Meteorological Department hat die Menschen gewarnt, vorsichtig zu sein, vor Gewitterschauern begleitet von schweren Beleuchtung von 14.00 bis 22.00 Uhr, heute (12. April) über 17 Bezirke auf der Insel.

Teile der Provinzen Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western, Northwestern und Northern werden als Gebiete mit hohem Risiko (rot) ausgewiesen.

Mit Ausnahme von Batticaloa sind alle anderen Bereiche entweder mit einem hohen Risiko für Gewitteroder oder mit einem moderaten Risiko verbunden, so die Met-Abteilung.

Für die nächsten Tage werden für fast ganz Sri Lanka starke Regenfälle prognostiziert. Bereits jetzt gibt es zahlreiche Erdrutschwarnungen für das Hochland und die Straße von Badulla nach Colombo war heute wegen Überflutungen teilweise gesperrt.

Miriyabedda is at risk of another landslide, 244 families in Koslanda evacuated​

Oct 15, Colombo: Haldummulla Divisional Secretary K. A. J. Priyangika said that 244 families residing on both sides of the old landslide site of Miriyabedda, Koslanda and the nearby area were immediately evacuated from their residences as per the recommendations of the National Building Research Organization (NBRO).

According to the Divisional Secretary 144 families have been temporarily evacuated to Koslanda Tea Factory, 23 families of Mahakanda to Malwenna Tea Factory, and 81 families of Dibulgasamulla have been evacuated to Koslanda Sinhala College and Koslanda Tamil College.

The disaster relief officials also said that there have been minor obstacles in evacuating the families to safe places in the Mahakanda Watta area due to the elephants hanging out at night.

Haldummulla Divisional Secretary K AJ Priyangika added that there are currently 768 people in these shelters.

Da das Wetter nicht wirklich besser geworden ist, wurden die Erdrutschwarnungen verlängert.

Erdrutsch-Frühwarnung für neun Bezirke verlängert​

Dementsprechend wurde für mehrere Gebiete in den Distrikten Badulla und Ratnapura eine Warnung der Stufe 2 (gelb) ausgegeben:

• Badulla – Haldummulla Divisional Secretariat Divisions (DSD) und Umgebung

• Ratnapura – Kalawana, Kuruwita, Eheliyagoda, Elapatha und Ratnapura DSDs und Umgebung

In der Zwischenzeit wurde die Warnung der Stufe 1 (gelb) für mehrere Gebiete wie folgt verlängert:
• Badulla – Bandarawela, Haputhale und Passara DSDs und Umgebung

• Galle – Thawalama, Imaduwa, Bope Poddala, Neluwa, Yakkalamulla, Elpitiya, Niyagama, Akmeemana, Baddegama, Nagoda, Galle Four Gravets und Ambalangoda DSDs und Umgebung

• Hambantota – Beliatta, Okewela, Walasmulla und Katuwana DSDs und Umgebung

• Kandy – Udadumbara, Pahathadumabara, Thumpane, Pasbage Korale, Harispattuwa und Udunuwara DSDs und andere umliegende Gebiete

• Kegalle – Aranayaka, Mawanella, Bulathkoupitiya, Kegalle, Dehiowita, Yatiyanthota, Deraniyagala und Ruwanwella DSDs und Umgebung

• Matale – Ukuwela, Rattota und Matale DSDs und Umgebung

• Matara – Kotapola, Pitabeddara, Hakmana, Malimbada, Akuressa, Athuraliya, Welipitiya, Pasgoda, Mulatiyana, Kamburupitiya, Kirinda Puhulwella, Thihagoda und Matara Four Gravets DSDs und Umgebung

10 deaths from landslides in 2 months alone​

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Ten people have been killed in landslides in two months.
The National Building Research Organization says that five of the ten deaths were reported from the Ratnapura district.
The other deaths have been reported from the Badulla, Galle, and Kandy districts.
The National Building Research Organization has inspected 1559 high-risk areas during that time period.
131 landslide locations have also been identified.
768 landslides and 88 incidents of erosion were also identified.
159 other incidents have also been reported.
Meanwhile, The Geological Survey & Mines Bureau says that more than 14,200 families in 14 districts live in high-risk zones of landslides.
Its senior geologist Laksiri Indratilaka says that among them, about 5,000 families are being relocated to safe places.

COLOMBO (News 1st); 34 families of the Panana village in the Weligepola divisional secretariat in Ratnapura have been evacuated to safety.
Ratnapura District Secretary Wasantha Gunaratne said the families were evacuated on Thursday (23) night due to the risk of landslides.

COLOMBO (News 1st); The National Building Research Organization said there is a landslide risk surrounding several main roads.

Senior Geologist of the Landslide Research and Risk Management Division Laksiri Indrathilaka advised the public to remain vigilant while traveling on those roads.

The National Building Research Organization has informed the public to refrain from using the Gannoruwa - Gohagoda main road at night and during showers, due to the risk of earth slips and landslides.

COLOMBO (News 1st); Multiple areas across Sri Lanka will experience a heavy rainfall on Tuesday (28) evening, warned the country's Met Department.

It said that the showery weather condition is expected to enhance over the island for the next few days starting from Wednesday (29), due to an atmospheric disturbance over Southeast Bay of Bengal Sea area.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Northern, Eastern, Southern, North-central and Uva provinces.

Heavy showers about 100 mm are likely at some places in Eastern, Central, Uva and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Heavy showers to continue​

The Department of Meteorology said further enhancement of the showery condition is expected over the island due to the low-pressure area existing in southeast Bay of Bengal.

The Department predicted showers or thundershowers in the Northern, North-central and Eastern provinces, with heavy showers of about 100mm in the Eastern province and in the Polonnaruwa and Mullaitivu districts.

The Met. Department predicted showers or thundershowers in other provinces of the island after 01.00 p.m, with fairly heavy showers of about 75mm in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.

The Department predicted showers in the Southern province during the morning as well.

Alarmstufe Rot, da sich der Zyklon Sri Lanka nähert​

Ein Tiefdruckgebiet über dem Südwesten des Golfs von Bengalen wird sich heute zu einem zyklonischen Sturm entwickeln, was die Behörden dazu veranlasst, eine rote Alarmstufe für Marine- und Fischergemeinden sowie Küstenbewohner im Norden und Osten des Landes auszurufen, sagten gestern hochrangige Beamte des Ministeriums für Meteorologie.

Sie sagten, dass sich das Tiefdruckgebiet, etwa 380 Kilometer nordöstlich von Trincomalee, schnell auf das Land zubewegt und höchstwahrscheinlich im Laufe des Tages an der Nordküste entlang streifen wird.

Der Zyklon mit einer Windstärke von 50 km/h könnte die Geschwindigkeit erhöhen, wenn er sich der Küste nähert, und daher wurde der Marine und der Fischergemeinde geraten, sich während dieser Zeit nicht ins Meer zu wagen, sagten die Beamten.
