Wings of Change: World Migratory Bird Day 2019 aims to raise awareness about threats to birds from plastic Pollution

Oct 11, Colombo: (UNDP Feature) The World Migratory Bird Day this year on the theme of 'Be the solution to plastic pollution' aims to increase the level of awareness about the threats - both general and specific - that birds are facing.
Shantha Jayaweera was a child when he first visited Colombo's wetlands. Abutting the crowded city, the marsh was wild, untamed and brimming with life.
"It felt like this was a hidden place," Shantha says, remembering that on that trip he saw birds skimming the water, and dragonflies in the reeds. He would learn that these lands were home to so many different species of animals and insects, including fishing cats, porcupines, otters and snakes.
