Sri Lanka today extended condolence over the demise of Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the longest-reigning monarch in Thai history, serving for 70 years since 1946.
"Sri Lanka expresses deep condolences to the Government and people of Thailand on the passing of King Bhumibol, United in grief," the Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a Twitter message.
President Maithripala Sirisena extending condolences in a separate message said "We are deeply saddened by demise of His Majesty Bhumibol Adulyadej. May He Attain Nibbana."
The Thai Royal Palace in a statement today announced the death of 88-year-old revered King, who had been in poor health in recent years and was hospitalized since October 3.
A palace official has said the body of the king would be moved to the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok on Friday.
