Sri Lanka to explore nuclear power options; calls for EOIs​

COLOMBO (News 1st) -Sri Lanka will call for expressions of interest (EOI) in setting up nuclear power plants.
Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekara posted on X that "the government intends to include the safe use of nuclear energy as a part of the long-term generation plans".
He said, "the government "will call for EOIs for establishing nuclear power plants & modern technology".
The primary source of energy in Sri Lanka is imported oil, coal, and hydropower. The government aims to produce 70% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
In June 2023, Russian nuclear giant Rosatom offered to build a nuclear power plant that may run two reactors and generate 300 megawatts of energy.
Reports suggest that India is the only South Asian country to have a nuclear power plant, built with Russian collaboration, while Bangladesh and Pakistan are in the process of setting them up.

Passt doch. Wir Deppen bauen Atomkraftwerke ab und fast alle Länder der Welt bauen sie neu. Nun plant auch das kleine Sri Lanka den Einstieg in die Atomenergie.

Übrigens, es gibt auch Solarkraftwerke, aber in SL schneit es ja wohl leider dauerhaft... :poop:

Red Bull verleiht Flügel. So könnten die Atomkraftwerke von Deutschland nach Sri Lanka fliegen.

Ich kenne schon mal zwei Solarkraftwerke in Sri Lanka. Zum Glück hat es dort noch nie geschneit.

Mir gruselt es bei dem Gedanken das Sri Lanka Atomkraftwerke bauen will. Ich habe da ein Bild vor Augen was ich vor einigen Jahren in Sri Lanka erlebt habe.
Ein Fachangestellter in einer Mercedes Werkstatt in Colombo steht vor der geöffneten Motorhaube einer S Klasse und haut mit einem Fäustel immer voll auf den Motor.
Fachkraft halt, jeder Schlag hat mir weh getan.
Und nun stellt euch mal vor die Fachkräfte sollen ein Atomkraftwerk reparieren!
Sicherlich beflügelt das auch den Tourismus wahrschlich wird das Atomkraftwerk ja in Strandnähe in Bentota gebaut werden das möglichst viele Touris den Fortschritt sehen.

Sri Lanka Approves Nuclear Power Plant Construction With Russia as Top Contender​

Russia has emerged as one of the strongest contenders to build nuclear power plants in Sri Lanka, according to a media report published on Tuesday.

According to the report, a high-level delegation from Russia recently visited the island nation and discussed proposed cooperation in the nuclear energy sector with the Sri Lankan authorities.

Sri Lanka currently imports most of its energy needs, including oil, coal and hydrocarbons. To ease the economic burden, the island nation aims to generate 70% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.

Chairman of the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Authority (SLAEA) Prof. S.R.D. Rosa briefed the Russian delegation on the status of Moscow's proposal to develop an offshore or onshore nuclear power plant in Sri Lanka.

He said his office had in principle given its approval for nuclear power to enhance Sri Lanka's energy mix and it had been sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for approval.
