COLOMBO (News 1st); The chieftain or the main 'kapu mahatha' of the Katharagama Maha Devalaya, Sompala Rathnayake has been arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division.

According to the police, he is to be produced before the Tissamaharama Magistrate's court later today after surrendering to the Crimes Division this morning.

The Colombo crimes division has a probe ongoing to arrest the chieftain over the disappearence of the gold tray that was placed at the Katharagama Devalaya, donated to the shrine by the wife of notorious organized criminal Angoda lokka.

Earlier, another 'kapu mahatha' of the Devalaya was arrested in connection to the incident.

 

Chief custodian of Kataragama Devalaya released on bail​

Colombo, Dec.27 (Daily Mirror) - The chief custodian of the Kataragama Devalaya, Somipala T. Ratnayake, who was arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) was released on bail by Tissamaharama Magistrate Tharindu Sameera Silva today.

He was released on two sureties of Rs. 500,000 each by the Magistrate.

The chief custodian of the Kataragama Devalaya, the main suspect in the disappearance of a gold tray made out of 38 gold sovereigns, which was donated to the Kataragama Devalaya by a devotee, was arrested this morning.
