78-year-old German lady missing in Meemure

A-78-year-old German lady who was visiting Meemure in Udadumbara with a group of 11 German nationals went missing since yesterday, police said.

They said three men and eight women had been engaged in mountain climbing and the missing lady had returned to the bus halfway through saying that she was unable to continue but the others had found that she was not in the bus on their return and had complained to the Udadumbara police about her disappearance.

Police said search operations were underway to locate her.

German tourist went missing in Sri Lanka jungle found safe

Sri Lanka police today found a German tourist who went missing in a forest area in the hill country yesterday.
The 78-year old woman lost her way last evening while she was trekking the Dothurugala Mountain in Hunnasgiriya area in the Central Province along with a group of German tourists.
Halfway through the hike the woman has told her group that she was returning to their bus but when they returned after the hike the group found that the woman had not returned.
A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter was deployed in the search operation. About 150 villagers also helped to find the missing tourist.
The woman was admitted to Theldeniya hospital and later transferred to Kandy General Hospital for medical evaluation.
