Thu, Dec 28, 2017, 08:58 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.Dec 28, Colombo: The annual two-day festival at St. Anthony's Church on Katchatheevu islet will be held on February 23 and 24, according to Indian media reports.
The Jaffna Diocese, which organized the festival, has announced the dates for the festival but yet to formally extend an invitation to the Verkodu parish in Rameswaram, which organized the Indian pilgrimage for the festival, The Hindu reported.
Rev Fr Anthonysamy, priest of the Verkodu parish, who is the chief coordinator of the Indian pilgrimage, said that it had been confirmed that the festival would be held on February 23 and 24 but the parish was yet to receive invitation from the Jaffna diocese.
The parish would seek permission from the district administration for the pilgrimage and invite applications for the pilgrimage once the invitation was received, he said.

1,920 pilgrims from Tamil Nadu leave for Katchatheevu church festival

RAMESWARAM: About 1,920 pilgrims from Tamil Nadu today left for Katchatheevu, an islet in the Palk Strait, to participate in the annual St Anthony's church festival, which would begin later this evening.Officials said the pilgrims, mostly local fishermen, were allowed to carry Rs 5,000 each and were checked before boarding the boats, they added.
Ramanathapuram district collector S Natarajan saw them off at the fishing harbour here.

Rameswaram: Forgive, forget spirit at Katchatheevu fest

Sun, Feb 25, 2018, 09:49 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.Feb 25 (DC) RAMESWARAM- A spirit of forget and forgive, to foster reconciliation and bonhomie between the Tamils and Sinhalese in Sri Lanka marked the two-day annual thanks-giving festival by fishermen and others from both countries at the St Antony´s church in Katchatheevu islet in Palk straits on Saturday.

While 1,950 fishermen-pilgrims from Rameswaram and nearby coastal hamlets in Tamil Nadu participated in the festival, nearly 5,250 pilgrims came for the festival from the Sri Lankan side this year.
