Auch in Galle gibt es schöne Restaurants und das Erste habe ich selbst besucht. Eigene Bilder stelle ich am Ende ein.

Mamas Galle Fort Roof Café, 76 Leyn Baan Street, Galle

Mama's used to be the spot in Galle Fort for rice and curry. We don't know what
exactly has happened (rumor is a management change) but it's simply not as
good anymore. Still a great view and location, but the rice and curry standard
has dropped.

The Food

Ma01.jpg

DSCF8193 From what we've heard on TripAdvisor, the original Mama's has moved to 67
Church Street and this one, on Leyn Baan Street, next to the Fish Spa, is run by
someone else. We called the new Mama's and they confirmed that yes, indeed,
they have moved. Sadly, you can tell.

Ma02.jpg

The rice and curries at this maternal incarnation were merely passable. They
weren't especially appetizing looking nor did the spices rise above the
component level. We were served a crude chicken curry, purippu, somewhat
soggy okra and eggplant, pollos, and a bit of salad. It would have been
disappointing at a roadside buth kade, but this was for Rs. 750 a plate. We also
tried the garlic shrimp appetizer for Rs. 750 and that was similarly unimpressive.
Small creatures, neither fresh, well-cooked nor well-seasoned.

The Location

Ma03.jpg

We went on a rainy day so forgive the photos. The view from the rooftop
remains amazing, you can see the mosque, lighthouse and ocean quite well.
It remains a beautiful spot, led to be aggressively winding stairs.

Service
The service was fine, though our table was wet and we had to dry it and
arrange seating ourselves.

Conclusion
The new Mama's remains a good spot for a beer or lime soda, but for
rice and curry it's below average.

Poonie's Kitchen, 63 Pedlar Street

Reviewed by Shifani 1 year ago Old Review
Poonie's Kitchen is a new and unexpected find in the Galle Fort - much like the time we discovered The Original Rocket Burger during its glory days. They do some great food at reasonable prices, and get a full 5/5 for ambience. They really stick out among the tourist-friendly, mediocre-but-pricey trend of restaurants and cafes in the Fort.
The Ambience

yimg_U9stKr-640x426.JPG
Just a few feet from the popular Fort haunt Pedlar's Inn Cafe, Poonie's is a hidden oasis of sorts. Once you walk through the first set of doors, you'll pass through Mimimango, a little shop of quality trinkets, clothes and art, but not unlike other good stores in the fort (like the TPV far down the same road). Walk out the back of this shop and you enter Poonie's Kitchen, a huge courtyard featuring very soothing, happy colours, Araliya leaves overhead, quirky decor, and comforting little things like the fish swimming in the pond and the swing to enjoy the view from.

If you don't want to sit on the long cushiony bench outside, there are tables and chairs for regular dining, flanked by shelves full of books and homely odds and ends.

A Minute By Tuk (Galle Dutch Hospital)

Reviewed by Kinita 4 months ago A Minute by Tuk Tuk appears to have totally stepped their game up. Since their 2014 inception, the decor hasn't changed a jot, but the quality of the food has. It's a go-to spot in the Galle area, and we even featured it on our 24 Hours in Galle guide.
Ambience

Perched on the second floor of the Galle Dutch Hospital, you're treated to a lovely uninterrupted view of the ocean. You can also choose to sit inside at the bar if you choose A/C over fresh beachside air (you monster!), but very few people do. With light wood furniture, quirky self-branded coasters and menus, Tuk's decor approach is simple and chic.
Service

I've had issues with Tuk's service in the past being either incredibly slow or unenthusiastic, or being way more tourist-friendly, but this appears to have changed too. I still wouldn't call the staff enthusiastic, as no amount of charm managed to elicit the slightest shadow of a smile, but everything came out lickety-spit. The only issue is that it all came out together, so we had to somehow juggle our starters, soup, drinks, and main course at the same time. Which was tricky. This is what we had to contend with:

Dining

Long story short, the food this time around was superb. We also thought quantity and quality were great given the price, and actually over-ordered thinking portions wouldn't be substantial. We were wrong, and left the restaurant waddling like penguins.

The Galle Good Market has been around since January, and we've been lucky enough to drop by a
couple of times. It's on a slightly smaller scale than the Colombo chapter, but the sense of community
is very strong, and the Court Square setting is just lovely!
With a bunch of little stalls nestled under the sprawling Banyan tree in the square, you can while away
a lazy Saturday morning walking around and seeing what's on offer for the week. It's been developed
in cooperation with the Ministry of Southern Development and the Galle Heritage Foundation.

yimg_aB9qOW-640x426.JPG

Not much is different in terms of policy and ethos. The Galle Good Market, much like it's capitol
counterpart, showcases products and services that are good for people and good for the planet.
It is a curated marketplace, which means all vendors go through an application and review process
to ensure they meet Good Market standards.

More than the ethical and sustainable stand points, the Good Market is also heaps of fun.
There's always interesting activities on, whether its spoken word poetry, acoustic music,
dance, or art. You'll find lovely fresh fruit juice, local nibbles, typical Galle antiques and jewellery,
as well as organic spa products, vegetables, and handloom clothes. It's perfect for both tourists
and hardened locals alike.

yimg_gdCF4G-640x426.JPG

The Galle Good Market is focused on organic farmers, social enterprises, and responsible
businesses in the southern region. Visitors will find organic fruits, vegetables, spices, tea,
heirloom rice, and houseplants, natural goat milk, and much more. Specialty food stalls
will have Sri Lankan coffee drinks, baked goods, traditional rice and curry, fresh hoppers,
local fruit juices, waraka jam (Jak fruit), kithul flour pudding, kurakkan kokis, lunu dehi
achcharu, fish ambulthiyal and many other village treats. Local artisans will feature clothing,
housewares, and gifts made from indikola, wetakeiya, hana, terracotta, coconut shells,
wood and other natural materials.

yimg_u6zRPN-640x426.JPG

The Saturday Good Market in Colombo will still be open weekly from 10 am to 6 pm at the
Colombo Racecourse. The Good Market organic and natural food shop is open daily from
8 am to 8 pm across the street from the Racecourse at 14 Reid Avenue (Philip Gunawardana Mawatha),
Colombo 7.
Good Market organic farm visits and other travel experiences can be organized by contacting
travel@goodmarket.lk or 0774134455.

Calorie Counter, 56 Lighthouse Street, Galle Fort

Reviewed by Kinita 1 day ago
Calorie Counter is one of our go-to spots for getting a healthy work lunch delivered in Colombo, so we were pleasantly surprised to find their snazzy new spot in the Galle Fort. It's healthy enough for you to feel good, but tasty enough for you to not curl up in a ball reconsidering your existence.
The Food & Drinks

The menu is exactly the same as the Colombo branches, with a selection of breakfast meals, smoothies, and healthy lunch/dinner options like grills and salads etc. We got there at about 10:30 AM, so opted for a Eggs Benedict with Smoked Salmon on Toast (Rs. 950).
The dish was perfectly executed, with lovely soft smoked salmon perched on local multigrain toasted bread. The eggs came perfectly poached, and topped with a low-fat hollandaise alternative (avocado!). Don't let the healthy tag fool you - it's a pretty hefty portion, more suited to brunch than breakfast.

...

Overall

The prices, menu, execution, and service all appear to be on par with their Colombo branches. The ambience is better though. Overall, we'd definitely recommend Calorie Counter as the only spot to grab a healthy meal in the Fort area. Plus it's actually cheaper than your average overpriced Fort spot.

Kurundu, 66A Pedlar Street, Galle Fort

Reviewed by Aisha 1 day ago
Kurundu is the newest of the numerous eateries that multiply within the Galle Fort. They don't have a specialized theme, but dish up your regular Western fare instead: wraps, pasta, sandwiches, and pizza. They also have beer.
Ambience

What instantly makes Kurundu stand out is their epic set-up: it doesn't actually show in the picture, but this looks lovely when you're walking down Pedlars Street. With large, coloured lanterns hanging under an awning made of cinnamon bark, this spot has a nice little street cafe vibe.
Food and Service

They've got a two-sheet menu consisting of pizzas, pasta, sandwiches and wraps. Unfortunately, the pizza wasn't available when we dropped by, so we settled for a Vegetable Wrap (Rs. 600), a Chicken BBQ (Rs. 800) and a Chicken Sandwich (Rs. 550).

Appearance-wise, the food was just so-so, nothing extraordinary. However, the vegetables in the wrap were fresh, zesty and crunchy, which was pretty nice. They'd also thrown in some diced capsicums, so that gave some welcome and contrasting flavour to your usually bland cabbages and carrots.

...

Conclusion

The food isn't remarkable but the ambience is. It's a combination of chilled out and clustered as the whole restaurant is squished into the entryway that leads to a house, so it's in a corridor-like space. Ventilation is somewhat limited when you're having walls closing in on you, but it's also a super economic use of space.
