The Government has briefed Germany on the post war situation in Sri Lanka particularly on the socio- economic development and national reconciliation process. The External Affairs Ministry said that the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Germany, Karunatilaka Amunugama met State Secretary Stephan Steinlein of the Federal Foreign Office recently and discussed the enhancing of the long standing friendly relations between Sri Lanka and Germany.
State Secretary Steinlein warmly welcomed Ambassador Amunugama as Sri Lanka’s envoy to Germany and expressed his sincere hope that bilateral relations would reach new heights during the Ambassador’s tenure of office in Berlin and conveyed his fullest support in working towards this end.
Ambassador Amunugama took the opportunity to brief State Secretary Steinlein on the socio- economic development and national reconciliation in the aftermath of the defeat of the LTTE terrorism in Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan Ambassador and the German State Secretary agreed to work closely to promote political, trade and economic, socio-cultural co-operation for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
