Kandy Esala Perara wird Weltkulturerbe: UNESCO

Es wurden Vorschläge eingereicht, um die Kandy Esala Prozession, die allgemein als "Esala Perahera" bekannt ist, zum Weltkulturerbe zu erklären, so die Sri Lanka National Commission for UNESCO.

Die Vorschläge werden dem UNESCO-Hauptquartier in Paris, Dr. Punchi Nilame Meegaswatte, dem Generalsekretär der Sri Lanka National Commission for UNESCO Moderates Asia-Pacific Consultations, vorgelegt.

Damit wird die Esala Perahera zum immateriellen Erbe erklärt.

Das Ministerium für Bewässerung hat vorgeschlagen, die Abhaya Wewa oder Basawakkulama Wewa, die als die erste Wewa im Land gilt, als Weltkulturerbe zu benennen, sagte Dr. Punchi Nilame Meegaswatte News 1st am Freitag (19. März).

Die archäologische Stätte Rajagala ist ein weiterer vorgeschlagener Ort, der zum Weltkulturerbe erklärt werden soll....

Rajagala (Rassagala or Rajagalathenna) is a place which reveals the splendour of Sri Lanka’s prehistoric era to the world. The place consists of more than 500 ruins and artifacts of a Buddhist temple.

The history of the place is not definite, but monks are believed to have inhabited it between the 10th and 3rdcenturies BC.

The Rajagala Viharaya has also been blessed by Arahat Mihindu Thera, who brought the precious gift of Buddhism to Sri Lanka. It is believed that Mihindu Thera’s body has been buried in this site.

There are some drawings on the stone, done with ash or chalk, which are believed to have been done by the adivasies (indigenous) people. Bandara said they believe that these drawings belong to the prehistoric era, that is 35,000 years ago, although it’s not a definite fact.
