Sri Lanka govt is not "excited" by LTTE's ultimatum


The Sri Lankan government today dismissed the LTTE's ultimatum for a political settlement by next year and said no deadline could be imposed to resolve the long-standing ethnic conflict.

Constitutional Affairs Minister D.E.W. Gunasekara told the media today, As a government, we dont get excited by these deadlines. You can't do these things in a hurry. You can't do it in one night.

LTTE agrees to discuss peace process with Sri Lanka govt

The LTTE today agreed to discuss the peace process with the Sri Lankan government and said it has no intention of resuming the war. The organisation made this statement during a meeting between LTTE Political Wing leader S.P. Thamilchelvan and SLMM chief Hagrup Haukland today in Kilinochchi. This is the first time for the Monitoring Mission to meet the LTTE after the November 17th presidential election. Haukland told the media after the meeting that tensions in the North and East are not high.
