Sri Lanka celebrates 74 years of Independence today
Feb 04, Colombo: Sri Lanka today celebrates the 74th anniversary of gaining independence from the British colonial rule in 1948 in a gallant ceremony at the Independence Square Colombo, under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and with the participation of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The Independence Day celebrations held under the theme "An Affluent Tomorrow and Prosperous Motherland with Challenges Overcome" commenced with the President hoisting the National Flag.
