Sri Lanka Opposition holds mass rally to protest government’s austerity measures and shortages
Nov 16, Colombo: Despite court orders and police actions, thousands of people gathered in the Sri Lankan capital Tuesday to protest the government’s restrictive austerity measures and shortages of food, fuel and other essentials.
Although the police prevented the people marching in to the capital city of Colombo from outskirts by putting up barricades and turning the buses carrying the protesters, under the pretext of maintaining health guidelines to prevent spread of COVID-19, the main Opposition party, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) today held its mass rally and protest march in Colombo.
