Feb 14, Colombo: An unidentified group wearing masks have pelted stones and excrement at the house of journalist Chamuditha Samarawickrema in Wewala, Piliyandala this morning (14), Piliyandala Police said.

Police said attackers had entered the housing complex, threatening the security guard at the housing complex with a firearm. He has told the police that the attackers have come in a small white van.

JVP condemns the cowardly attack on Chamuditha’s house

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) idssuing a statement has condemned the cowardly attack on the house of journalist Chamuditha Samarawickrema.
Following is the statement issued by MP Vijitha Herath, Information Secretary of the JVP.

An unidentified group has pelted stones and excreta at the house of journalist Chamuditha Samarawickrema at a private housing scheme in Wewala, Piliyandala, this morning (14th).

It is said that a group that had arrived in a white van had threatened the security guard of the apartment complex with a pistol on his head, forced the door open, entered the complex and carried out the attack.

The residence of Colombo-based journalist, Chamuditha Samarawickrama, was attacked by masked gunmen travelling in a white van in the early hours of Monday.

Die Wohnung des in Colombo ansässigen Journalisten Chamuditha Samarawickrama wurde am Montag in den frühen Morgenstunden von maskierten bewaffneten Männern überfallen, die in einem weißen VAN unterwegs waren.

This attack takes place just 14 days ahead of a UN Human Rights Council session and follows a series of controversial videos released by the journalist, the latest of which laid allegations against the extremist Buddhist monk Galabadaththe Gnanasara who heads Sri Lanka’s task force for ‘One Country, One Law’.

Media Minister urges IGP to expedite investigations into attack on journalist’s house

Feb 15, Colombo:
Media Minister Dullas Alahapperuma has requested the Inspector General of Police (IGP) CD Wickramaratne to expedite the investigation into the attack on the house of Hiru TV journalist Chamuditha Samarawickrema.

Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa stated that three teams have commenced investigations into the incident under the supervision of the SSP in charge of the Mount Lavinia Division.
