COLOMBO (News 1st): Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena says that he is yet to receive the Letter of Resignation from President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

President Rajapaksa had earlier said that he would send his Letter of Resignation during that course of the day, on Wednesday (13), the Speaker said in a televised address.

Präsident Rajapaksa schafft es nicht, einen Flug aus Singapur zu besteigen​


Präsident Gotabaya Rajapaksa, der inmitten der anhaltenden Wirtschaftskrise und der wachsenden Proteste für seinen Rücktritt auf die Malediven aufgebrochen war, ist aus Sicherheitsgründen nicht nach Singapur gereist, wie ausländische Medien mitteilten.

Berichten zufolge sollte er an Bord eines SQ437-Fluges von Singapore Airlines gehen. Er war jedoch ein No-Show auf dem Changi Airport in Singapur.

Ausländische Medien sagten, dass der internationale Flughafen Velana am Mittwochabend schwer bewacht wurde, als Präsident Rajapaksa die Malediven verlassen sollte.

Es wurde erwartet, dass er nach Singapur aufbricht und seinen Rücktritt an den Parlamentspräsidenten sendet, nachdem er dort gelandet ist.

Medienberichten zufolge befindet er sich nun in Gesprächen mit der maledivischen Regierung, um sich einen Privatjet für seinen Abflug zu sichern.

Unterdessen sieht sich die maledivische Regierung mit einer großen Gegenreaktion konfrontiert, weil sie die Ankunft des srilankischen Präsidenten akzeptiert hat. Sri Lankas Expatriates auf den Malediven veranstalteten am Mittwochnachmittag einen Protest gegen den Umzug und ein Demonstrant wurde von der Bereitschaftspolizei festgenommen.

Mahinda, Basil & Attygalle pledge not to leave country until tomorrow (15)​

COLOMBO (News 1st); Former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, former Minister of Finance Basil Rajapaksa, and former Secretary of the Ministry of Finance S. R. Atygalle have pledged to the Supreme Court today (14), that they will not be traveling overseas until tomorrow (15).

The pledge was made by lawyers representing the above former officials when a petition filed for an investigation against those who are responsible for the current economic crisis was called today.

Mahinda, Basil und Attygalle versprechen, das Land bis morgen nicht zu verlassen (15)

COLOMBO (News 1st); Der ehemalige Premierminister Mahinda Rajapaksa, der ehemalige Finanzminister Basil Rajapaksa und der ehemalige Sekretär des Finanzministeriums S. R. Atygalle haben heute (14.) vor dem Obersten Gerichtshof zugesagt, dass sie bis morgen (15.) nicht ins Ausland reisen werden.

Diese Zusage wurde von den Anwälten der genannten ehemaligen Beamten gemacht, als heute eine Petition für eine Untersuchung gegen die Verantwortlichen für die derzeitige Wirtschaftskrise aufgerufen wurde.

Feldmarschall Sarath Fonseka sagte heute, dass er bereit sei, die Präsidentschaft zu übernehmen, wenn die Mehrheitsmitglieder im Parlament ihn auf den Posten wählen.

"Ich wurde von einigen Teilen der Abgeordneten, einschließlich einer Gruppe von SLPP, gebeten, für die Präsidentschaft zu kandidieren. Daher werde ich den Posten annehmen, wenn ich gewählt werde", sagte der ehemalige Armeekommandeur heute auf einer Pressekonferenz.

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Foreign Ministry of Singapore confirms that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has been allowed entry into Singapore on a private visit.

The Foreign Ministry Further adds that he has neither asked for asylum and nor has Singapore granted any.

Singapore generally does not grant asylum, the statement by the Singapore Foreign Ministry adds.

COLOMBO (News 1st) The Office of the Parliament Speaker says that it had received A letter of resignation from President Gotabaya Rajapaksa via the Sri Lankan High Commission in Singapore.

The Officer of the Parliament Speaker said after authenticating the letter once again, and after completing all the necessary legal matters, an official announcement will be made on Friday (15).

These details were revealed in a statement issued bearing the signature of the Speaker’s Media Secretary.

COLOMBO (News 1st) Das Büro des Parlamentspräsidenten sagt, dass es ein Rücktrittsschreiben von Präsident Gotabaya Rajapaksa über die srilankische Hochkommission in Singapur erhalten hat.

Das Büro des Parlamentspräsidenten sagte, dass nach erneuter Beglaubigung des Schreibens und nach Abschluss aller notwendigen rechtlichen Angelegenheiten am Freitag (15.) eine offizielle Bekanntgabe erfolgen wird.

Opposition to propose a name for PM at 10am tomorrow

July 14, Colombo: According to the request made by the Acting President to the Speaker to nominate a Prime Minister for an all-party government, the main opposition, Samagi Jana Balawegaya has decided to forward the name to the Speaker before 10 am tomorrow.

In a tweet issued by the Member of Parliament, Dr. Harsha De Silva, it is stated that the opposition parties are holding talks with the government groups today to reach a consensus to name a Prime Minister.

Juli, Colombo: Nach der Aufforderung des amtierenden Präsidenten an den Parlamentspräsidenten, einen Premierminister für eine Allparteienregierung zu benennen, hat die wichtigste Oppositionspartei Samagi Jana Balawegaya beschlossen, dem Parlamentspräsidenten den Namen bis morgen um 10 Uhr zu übermitteln.

In einem Tweet des Parlamentsmitglieds Dr. Harsha De Silva heißt es, dass die Oppositionsparteien heute Gespräche mit den Regierungsgruppen führen, um einen Konsens zur Ernennung eines Premierministers zu erzielen.

July 14, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Election watchdog, the People’s Action for Free & Fair Elections (PAFFREL) says the President and Prime Minister of the Interim Government should be elected in unison with all the political parties in Parliament avoiding any kind of voting for any reason.

Issuing a statement, PAFFREL stressed that parties should not take any decision to create divisions and go for a vote during the process to elect a new President and a Prime Minister.

Juli, Colombo: Sri Lankas Wahlbeobachter, die People's Action for Free & Fair Elections (PAFFREL), sagt, dass der Präsident und der Premierminister der Interimsregierung im Einklang mit allen politischen Parteien im Parlament gewählt werden sollten, wobei jede Art von Abstimmung aus irgendeinem Grund vermieden werden sollte.

In einer Erklärung betonte PAFFREL, dass die Parteien während der Wahl des neuen Präsidenten und des Premierministers keine Spaltungen herbeiführen und keine Abstimmungen durchführen sollten.
