Officials of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake have decided to close down the airport during the first three months of the next year for renovations.
This will be the first time the Airport will be closed for renovations since the airport was built in 1986.

Falls es stimmen solte ?, dann freut sich der Hambantota International Airport. Falls nicht, dann landen drei Monate überhaupt keine Flugzeuge mehr in Sri Lanka. Das kann ich mir nicht vorstellen.
 
Diese Nachricht kam vor Monaten schon mal, ich denke, es wird so gemacht und Hambantota wird als Alternative angeboten. Gut, dass ich erst im April fliege:-) Wenn dann alles gut geht, dann ist die Reperatur beendet, wenn Sie sich aber Untersützung aus D/Berlin holen, dann erst in 5 Jahren.:)
 
Katunayake airport’s main runway to be closed for renovations

The main runway of Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake will be closed during the first three months next year due to renovations.

The Director General of Airport and Aviation Services Authority H.M.C. Nimalsiri told our news team that the main runway of Katunayake airport will be closed from 6th of January to 7th of April between 8.30 AM to 4.30PM.

Sri Lanka's main airport to temporarily switch to night operations

SRI Lanka’s main gateway will operate mostly night flights for three months in 2017, from January 6 to April 6, so that the airport’s 30-year-old runway can undergo urgent repairs.

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) informed industry stakeholders last week that flights won’t be permitted between 08.30 and 16.30 at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) for the period.

New Airport Terminal for BIA

Work on a new Airport Terminal that is capable of handling 20 million people will be begun at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) next year, Deputy Transport Minster Asoka Abeysinghe said yesterday. He said the new terminal would be built with a grant of US$ 800 million from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). It is planned to complete the terminal within two years. “The terminal we have now can handle only about 6.5 million people but 8.5 million people use it. Therefore, we will build the new terminal to handle 20 million people in the future,” he said.

Renovation of Sri Lanka's main airport next year, no plans to sell Mattala airport

Tue, Jul 26, 2016, 11:42 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.July 26, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main international airport in Katunayake will undergo repair work to its runway beginning next year while the government is seeking a suitable investor to utilize the idling Mattala Airport in Hambantota, the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Nimal Siripala De Silva said.
Addressing a media conference held in Colombo today to announce the 53rd Asia Pacific Civil Aviation Services Directors General Conference planned to be held in Sri Lanka, the Minister stressed that the government is not prepared to sell the Mattala Airport.
The Minister revealed that there are some investors who are interested in it and as soon as they found a good investor they would hand it over to them to utilize the airport.

Sehe ich das richtig, das der Flughafen, bzw. Die Start- und Landebahn immer nur zwischen 8:30 Uhr und 16:30 Uhr gesperrt sein wird?
Wenn ja, dann sollte das für uns kein Problem sein, normalerweise, denn unser Flieger landet und startet jeweils in der Zeit nach 16:30 Uhr und vor 8:30 Uhr.

Mit der Reaktivierung des MRIA dürfte man noch etwas zu tun haben, zumindest beim Reis wegschaufeln. :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

So sehe ich das auch. Irgendwo steht auch, dass alle Flüge ausserhab dieser Zeit abgewickelt werden sollen.
Vermutlich verschieben sich die Abflugzeiten in D ein wenig ;)
 
der von uns angestrebte Flug landet bzw. startet regulär immer um diese Zeiten. Und wenn wir dann eventuell doch nach Hambantota müssen, ist mir das eigentlich auch egal. Die Entfernung dürfte fast gleich sein. Autobahn fahre ich eh nicht so gerne. Damit braucht man wohl ähnlich nach Hikka wie vom BIA.
 
Das stimmt, die Zeiten nach Hikka nehmen sich nichts. Da ist dann das Nadelöhr Matara und Galle wenn wir beide nach Hikka wollen.
Blöd ist es für die, die nach Negombo oder noch nördlicher ihr Ziel haben.

Und schon ist es soweit. Angesteckt durch Peters Posting bzgl. Flugzeiten Sri Lankan, dachte ich: Schaust auch mal nach was sich so tut bei meinen Flügen bei Qatar.
Statt um 20.55 Uhr starten wir jetzt schon am Vormittag um 09:55 Uhr und sind um 01.55 Uhr in der Nacht in Colombo. Die Umsteigezeit hat sich von 1,5 Std. auf 50 Minuten verkürzt.

Ich habe dann der Änderung zugestimmt, hätte auch schlimmer kommen können.

Aufpassen muss man allerdings bei den reservierten Sitzplätzen. Auf einem der Flüge wurden die Plätze geändert. Ich konnte sie aber selbst wieder neu auswählen in einer anderen Reihe.

Qatar hat die tägliche Sperrung von 8 Stunden berücksichtigt.

Ich habe auch ein wenig auf den Seiten der Airlines gestöbert. Etihad und Qatar haben ihre Flugzeiten von Fra bei Buchungen ab Januar schon umgestellt. Bei Emirates hat sich noch nichts getan. Das wird sich aber in den nächsten Tagen sicher auch ändern.

Sri Lanka's main international airport to be closed from January 6th for runway renovation

Thu, Dec 22, 2016, 08:51 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.Dec 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main Bandaranayake International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake will be closed from first week of January in order to start a long outstanding repair to the runaway. The runway is being reconstructed only after a lapse of 30 years.
The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation Services announced that the Colombo International Airport will be closed for a period of eight hours from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm with effect from 06th January to 05th of April 2017. Flights will use the runway only at the night during the renovation.
Apprising the media of the situation, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said it is no longer possible to delay the modernization activities further due to the cracks that have surfaced on the runway of the Katunayake International Airport.
Although international regulatory bodies had recommended the renovation many years ago, since BIA functions with a single runway, the renovation was delayed and if delayed further the operations could come to a complete halt, he explained.

Emirates hat ihre Flugzeiten auch umgestellt...fliege am Abend in Zürich 21.55 weg...dafür habe ich fünf Stunden Aufenthalt in Dubai...bin am andern Abend um 18:05 in Colombo...bin sonst immer am Nachmittag geflogen und hatte nur zwei bis drei Stunden Aufenthalt in Dubai.
