Train and services permitted to transport passengers according to the number of seats from tomorrow, no standing passengers

May 12, Colombo: The Minister of Transport Services and Power and Energy Mahinda Amaraweera said permission will be granted for trains and buses to only transport passengers according to the number of seats, in the districts where the curfew has been lifted.Train and services will limit the number of passengers to the number of seats from Wednesday (13) in all areas of the country except in Colombo and Gampaha districts where the curfew is still enforced.

Curfew in Colombo, Gampaha districts continue, will be enforced islandwide on May 17

May 14, Colombo: The curfew in force in the two districts of Colombo and Gampaha will continue until further notice. In other districts curfew will be effective from 8.00 pm to 5.00 am daily till Saturday, May 16th. Curfew will be imposed in the entire island on Sunday, May 17th. Curfew which will be relaxed in other districts except in the districts of Colombo and Gampaha at 5.00 am on Monday, May 18th will be effective from 8.00 pm to 5.00 am daily till Saturday, May 23rd.

More trains to operate from Monday

May 15, Colombo: The Railway Department has decided to increase the number of trains operating in the country from Monday, May 18. According to Railway Operations Superintendent Gamini Seneviratne, 20 trains are currently in service and steps will be taken to increase the number of trains and revise the train timetable for next week.

Coronavirus update: Sri Lanka COVID-19 cases rise to 935 with 10 new cases on Friday

May 15, Colombo: Sri Lanka reported a total of 10 new cases Friday, raising the total number of people contracted the coronavirus to 935, according to the Health Ministry. According to the Epidemiology Unit report released at 11:30 pm Friday, 449 confirmed patients are receiving treatment at hospitals while 112 individuals are currently under investigations in hospitals.

Curfew imposed islandwide from 8 pm today until 5 am Monday

May 16, Colombo: The curfew will be imposed in all districts of the island from 8:00 pm today (16) until 5:00 am on Monday, May 18 the Government said. The curfew imposed from 8 pm last night (15) was lifted at 5 am today in all districts except in Colombo and Gampaha districts.

Health Ministry says COVID-19 epidemic is under control in Sri Lanka

May 17, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Health states that the COVID-19 epidemic in the country has been brought under control.
Dr. Paba Palihawadana, Deputy Director General of Public Health Services, Ministry of Health says the COVID-19 virus has not been reported lately among the public in the society.

Coronavirus update: Sri Lanka COVID-19 cases rise to 960 with 25 new cases on Saturday

May 17, Colombo: Sri Lanka reported a total of 25 new cases by late Saturday, raising the total number of people contracted the coronavirus to 960, according to the Health Ministry.
According to the Health Promotion Bureau report updated at 7 am Sunday, 431 confirmed patients are receiving treatment at hospitals while 106 individuals are currently under investigations in hospitals.

Police arrest 620 people for violating curfew in last 24 hours

May 18, Colombo: Sri Lanka Police have arrested 2,709 people in the 24 hours from Sunday 6 am to Mondays 6 am, for violating the curfew.
The police also seized 946 vehicles during this period for traveling without a permit during the curfew.

Coronavirus update: Sri Lanka COVID-19 cases surpasses 1000 with 31 new cases today

May 19, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 cases surpassed 1000 today with 31 more persons testing positive for the coronavirus, the Health Ministry said. According to the Epidemiology Unit as of 10:45 pm Tuesday, total number of people contracted the coronavirus raised to 1023 and 445 patients are receiving treatment at hospitals. Another 135 Individuals are currently under investigations in hospitals.

Islandwide curfew imposed in Sri Lanka on Sunday and Monday

May 22, Colombo: The curfew currently in force in the two districts of Colombo and Gampaha will continue until further notice, President’s Media Division said. Curfew will be effective island-wide on Sunday (May 24th) and Monday (May 25th). In the rest of the districts, except Colombo and Gampaha, curfew which will come into force from 8.00pm tomorrow, Saturday the 23rd May, will be relaxed at 5.00am on Tuesday, the 26th May. Thereafter curfew in these districts will be effective from 8.00pm to 5.00am daily, until further notice.
