Corn is one of the popular crops in many traditional village farms. During the corn season, mature corns are harvested and prepared many food items which are balanced in all the nutrients such as carbohydrates, protein, lipids, vitamins, minerals and water. The excess crop is properly dried and stored for the future consumption. Drying is the preserving method of the corn, after drying properly insect damages are minimum. In addition to their main farm, traditional villagers grow many food items including vegetable, fruits, leafy vegetables and tree nuts in their home garden. People used to grow many flower plants as insect repellents for instance different types of Chrysanthemums. Since these plants are organically grown, those are safe to eat and healthy without any bad chemicals. Properly dried corn is ground to make cornmeal, which is a staple food that can be used as a raw material for many food items including pittu, rotii, string hoppers and some other snacks. Also remaining corn particles after sieving the flour, can be mixed with rice and boiled to make it edible. Corn pittu is a delicious and tasty food and made with mixing cornmeal, grated coconut and salt. It can be eaten with any curry, but very tasty with tomato curry prepared with ripe tomato and coconut milk. Bottle guard (Labu) is another healthy vegetable grow in traditional farms and it can be used to prepare tasty curry by mixing with thick coconut milk and it is popular among traditional villagers. It is good for body cooling and refreshing. From Area to area, preparation methods and ingredients are different in vegetable curry preparation. But traditional Sri Lankan diets contained all the 6-natural taste; Sweet taste, bitter taste, sour taste, salt taste, pungent taste and astringent taste, which makes traditional cooking is unique and mouthwatering.
