Panic buying of fuel unnecessary

Power and Energy Minister Mahinda Amaraweera yesterday urged motorists not to resort to panic buying at fuel stations as the Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminal Ltd (CPSTL) had sufficient stocks of petrol, diesel and kerosene for 20 days. Two or three more oil tankers are reaching the Colombo harbour in the next few days, he added.

Presidential Secretariat announces Curfew times
Wed, Mar 25, 2020, 08:58 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka. Mar 25, Colombo: The Presidential Secretariat has announced the lifting and re-imposing times of the island wide curfew.
The on-going island-wide curfew will be lifted and re-imposed as follows.
The curfew currently in force in Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara districts will continue until further notice.

No new COVID-19 cases in Sri Lanka today

Mar 25, Colombo: No new COVID-19 coronavirus positive cases were identified today in Sri Lanka, Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi said. Health Minister said that by 4.30 p.m. today (25), there were no new Coronavirus positive patients reported in the country.

Sri Lanka PM requests social media users not to spread false information

Mar 25, Colombo: Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has called on users of social media networks not to spread false rumors about the concessions given by the government in the face of the coronavirus pandemic. The Prime Minister said while controlling the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the government is implementing a special program to provide essential consumer goods to the public. As a responsible government, many decisions have been taken for the benefit of the people, PM Rajapaksa said.

Updated curfew times announced, continuous curfew in Jaffna

Mar 26, Colombo: The President’s Media Division has announced the updated schedule for the lifting and re-imposition of the curfew currently in effect across the island. The curfew currently in force in Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara districts, which were identified as the high risk zones when considering the spreading of coronavirus, will continue until further notice.

Special request from the police on avoiding quarantine

Mar 25, Colombo: Sri Lanka Police are urging the public to immediately provide information on individuals who should be isolated but avoiding quarantine. Police Media Spokesman SP Jaliya Senaratne said that several special telephone numbers have been introduced for this purpose. Information can be given on 119, 0112444480 and 0112444481.

In order to strengthen the efforts of the Government to prevent spread of COVID-19 virus in the country, the duration from March 30 to April 03 had been declared as a 'Work from Home' period, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said. It said this will apply to all State, semi-government and private sector entities except which are categorised as essential services. "This period is not considered as public holidays. Uninterrupted continuation of public services is the responsibility of the Government. However, the objective of this measure is to prevent unnecessary gathering of people and pave the way for self-quarantine," it said. Earlier, a Work from Home Week was announced from March 20 to March 27. The Government announces the same procedure should follow during this time as well.

Government declares March 30 - April 03 as "Work from Home" week

Mar 26, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government has declared the week from March 30 - April 03 as a "Work from Home" week to strengthen the government’s efforts to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the country, President’s Media Division announced. All state, semi-state and private sector entities except those designated as essential services come under this category. This period is not considered as a public holiday.

Coronavirus: two new cases identified today raise total to 104 in Sri Lanka

Mar 26, Colombo: Two new COVID-19 coronavirus cases were confirmed today in Sri Lanka after no new cases were reported yesterday raising the number of coronavirus infections in Sri Lanka to 104. Three more patients have completely recovered and been discharged from the hospital.

Sri Lanka makes arrangements for over 18,000 international tourists to get to their home countries

Mar 26, Colombo: The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) has announced that arrangements have been made for over 18,000 international tourists in the island to get to their home countries.Sri Lanka will allow charter flights to fly out the tourists remaining in the country on request, the SLTDA said. As of 25th March, there are approximately 18,093 international tourists in the country according to immigration authorities. Sri Lanka Tourism is closely working with the Foreign Ministry and respective embassies and high commissions to arrange necessary facilities.

Coronavirus Update: Sri Lanka COVID-19 cases rise to 106

Mar 26, Colombo: The number of COVID-19 coronavirus infections in Sri Lanka has risen to 106 by the end of the day, the Ministry of Health said. According to the Health Promotion Bureau, four new cases have been confirmed today.

Sri Lanka: Fishermen unable to sell their catch amid Lockdown

Mar 26 (AJ) Fishermen in Sri Lanka are struggling to sell their catch as the government introduces tough measures to halt the spread of the new coronavirus.Four hundred tonnes of fish could be thrown away, and more fish-laden boats are expected to return to port soon.

Government stresses public to strictly comply with curfew regulations

Mar 27, Colombo: The Sri Lankan Government has stressed that the public must strictly adhere to the curfew now in force island-wide.
Curfew has been imposed with the sole purpose of to preventing the spread of COVID–19 which has now become a major health issue.
