First coronavirus death reported in Sri Lanka

Mar 28, Colombo: Sri Lanka today reported the first death due to coronavirus with a 60-year old patient dying from the infection while receiving treatment.
The patient, a resident of Marawila was the second Sri Lankan contracted the disease. He was being treated at the Intensive Care Unit of the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) in Angoda.

Police arrest 5,185 for violating coronavirus curfew, 11 for hosting a drug party

Mar 28, Colombo: The Police Media Unit said 5,185 persons have been arrested by police stations across the country for violating the curfew.
The suspects were apprehended by various police stations in the island between 6.00 pm Friday (March 20) and 6.00 am today (28).

Möchte mich bedanken für immer die neuen Updates aus Sri Lanka...
Nadee und Siri bleiben auch zu Hause in Quarantäne....weil Siri noch Gäste aus Wien als letztes gefahren hat....es geht beiden gut...sie können nur nichts mehr einkaufen...Aluthgama ist Sperrgebiet und in Bentota ist der kleine Cargills leer...wie von der Regierung angekündigte Lebensmittel haben sie noch nichts bekommen....
 
No bail for curfew violators, legal action against quarantine evaders - Police

Mar 27, Colombo: Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ajith Rohana says that those arrested for violating curfew will no longer receive police bail. He further said that the violators will be produced before courts and remanded.

Coronavirus: Two villages sealed off after COVID-19 patients found

Mar 29, Colombo: Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) said the entire Akurana village in Kandy has been quarantined and over 100 persons in Kadayankulam in Puttalam have been directed to be quarantined after two COVID-19 patients were found.

Curfew to continue in six districts until further notice

Mar 29, Colombo: The curfew currently in force in Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Puttalam, Kandy and Jaffna districts will continue until further notice, President’s Media Division announced. The curfew in all other districts will be lifted at 6:00 a.m. on Monday, March 30 and will be re-imposed at 2:00 p.m. on the same day. Travel between the districts for purposes other than essential services is completely prohibited.

Coronavirus: Four major towns in Badulla district, Horowpathana to be closed tomorrow

Mar 29, Colombo: Bandarawela Police Superintendent Athula de Silva has stated that although curfew will be lifted tomorrow (30) in Badulla district, steps have been taken to close four major towns of the district in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus. SP Athula de Silva told Lankadeepa it was announced by loudspeakers that Welimada, Bandarawela, Haputale and Diyatalawa towns are closed and asked people not to visit the four towns.

Easter services cancelled

Easter services in the Colombo Archdiocese have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 crisis while other dioceses including Chilaw are also likely to call off the services depending on the situation.Archbishop of Colombo Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith announced that Easter services including services on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and on Easter Sunday will be cancelled in Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara Districts. “We will have the Easter services telecast on TV,” he said.(Yohan Perera)
